Abraham Holzmann, born in New York on the 19th of August 1874, composed this wonderful cakewalk in 1899. He received his music education partially in Germany and at the New York Conservatory of Music. This classical training did not stop him turn himself to the emerging genre of popular American music.

Smokey Mokes was dedicated to composer and journalist Monroe H. Rosenfeld, who may have helped Abe with connections in New York. The piece did well and was soon picked up by John Philip Sousa for his band.

Arranged by Marlous Smit-Van den Hoven, this piece for piano played by millions is now available as a piano quartet. And you know the saying: The more souls, the more fun....

The arrangement consists of a score, parts for piano, violin 1, violin 2, and cello.
