Ernest Gillet was a popular French composer, born in Paris, on September 13th, 1856. He received his musical education at the Paris Conservatoire and became solo cellist at the Grand Opera.

Loin du Bal (Sounds from the Ballroom) is Gillet’s most famous piece. You’ll recognize it the minute it is played! The piece is skillfully arranged for piano quartet by Marlous Smit-Van den Hoven.

The arrangement consists of a score, parts for piano, violin 1, violin 2, and cello.
